We've all experienced it. If you peruse Fanfiction.net at all you will run smack into all sorts of bad fics. It is almost a horrorfest unlike any other.
You might encounter the Mary Sue monster or the dreaded diseases of no-punctuationitis and run-on sentence syndrome (ROSS). The Self-Insertion Mummy is waiting to ambush you when you turn the corner, and twisted fics with LCP (Lack of a Comprehensive Plot) limp along the corridors. It is absolutely certain you will find evidence of Mutant Plot Bunnies; those dangerous beasts that drive fanfiction writers to create things such as high school fics, overly sour lemons, and teeth-gnashing crossovers. Much of the fanfiction published on the web is a train wreck one simply cannot look away from, despite its utter degradation and the psychological impacts on the mind.
For those who have suffered the travails of bad fanfics, I am happy to report there is hope! Therapy, free of charge can be found within the Badfic Quotes community. Within the safe walls of the community, fellow sufferers can congregate and share the depths of their trauma. After all, shared expression of suffering is the key to recovery. :)
